Zero carbon homes at former commercial nursery, Barters Farm, High Street, Chapmanslade, Wiltshire, BA13 4AL

 

We are delighted to provide information on proposals for 43 new highly sustainable homes with open market homes being zero carbon, in the village of Chapmanslade which have now received planning permission with work anticipated to commence on site later this year.  

As a forward thinking and proactive developer, we are looking to create a benchmark for future homes and help address the impacts of global climate change.

New homes are proposed to be zero carbon and will be amongst the first in the country to achieve this exceptionally high level of sustainability which far exceed current planning requirements and building regulations for energy efficiency and sustainability. 

The development will consist of 3 and 4 bedroom houses as well as 2 and 3 bedroom bungalows to provide variety of house designs and styles. 

Access is taken from Cleyhill Gardens and sits on the former commercial nursery site to the north east of the village with good road links to Frome and Bath via the A3098 and A36 respectively.

House designs reflect local buildings and reference local materials to ensure houses sit comfortably in their setting and provide high-quality homes now and for generations to come.

Homes across the development will be truly eco-concious, boasting renewable heating sources with solar PV panels and air source heat pumps.  This is in addition to high levels of insulation that far exceed current building regulations which make them highly sustainable. 

Every Newland home already includes touches to enable occupiers to live greener and the homes at Chapmanslade are no exception; including integrated recycling eco-bins as part of the kitchen design, water butts for rainwater harvesting, composters for the garden, plus wiring provision for electric car charging points. 

Along with high quality house designs, the wider site will provide a large open space with play area for families, wildflower meadow and newly planted woodland to enhance biodiversity along with ‘hedgehog highways’ that enable hedgehogs to roam freely and help reduce the decline of these most popular and iconic nocturnal mammals.

In addition, a Sustainable Drainage System is proposed to control surface water run off which allows for future changes due to Climate Change with planting which will include specifically selected species and create new habitats and improve biodiversity.

The development will make significant S106 contributions as agreed with the local authority with Newland Homes providing contributions for recreation facilities along with payments to help with waste and recycling services and to upgrade the footpath to the north of the development for everyone to benefit from.
