Joe chooses No. 102 Prestbury Road as his Newland home!

For us at Newland Homes, there’s no greater endorsement than when a member of our team chooses one of our homes to start a life in together.

Joe Misselbrook is a Technical Coordinator for Newland Homes and has been with the company for two years.  He works in the team preparing the technical drawings for Newland Homes’ developments, or as Joe explains: “Architects may have a vision for the home and we work out how to actually build them.”

Joe and partner Brittany Gillham, both aged 26, have bought their first home together at No. 102 Prestbury Road in Cheltenham, just a short walk from the iconic Pittville Park.  Launched in October 2020, sales to date have outstripped the pre-pandemic norm and the development has created a real buzz in the town.  There are just three, three-bed homes remaining for sale, including the show home and marketing suite with many extras and upgrades included.

Joe explains: “We got engaged in June 2019, so we were saving up and intending to get married in October 2020 before buying a home together, as we didn’t think we could afford to buy before then.  Our wedding plans were delayed by the Coronavirus, and then we saw the launch of these houses.  It was too good an opportunity to miss as we really like the area.

“We were previously renting a two bed house in a village just outside Cheltenham, which was costing us £50 more a month in rent than we pay now for our bigger, brand new house.  Plus, we couldn’t rely on the broadband and phone signal in such a rural area, which was frustrating.

“We’d have to organise lifts for a night out in town with friends and a car was needed to go anywhere.  We have dogs and in the summer it was lovely to go for walks across the fields, but walking in the depth of winter with no street lights was not so pleasant.  Every walk was in the pitch black!  Now we have an easy walk into town or out in the countryside, and pre-installed fibre broadband has made working from home so much easier.”

Prior to 2008, people used to move house roughly four times after they purchased their first home.  Nowadays, the slower pace of buying and selling suggests that this has halved, with homeowners moving, on average, 1.8 times over their lifetime after buying their first property*. If house moves are taking place less frequently, your home has to work for you for longer.

“The house was more than we were thinking about spending on our first property, but we will hopefully live here for longer than we thought we could ever live in our first home together.  As it’s just the two of us both working from home at the moment, we use a bedroom each as an office.  There’s ample space, plus, we have a decent sized shed and a nice garden!

Although Joe didn’t prepare the technical drawings for No. 102 Prestbury Road himself, he did have a hand in creating the new sun lounges introduced to homes on the site.  Joe says: “Conservatories might be a great way to bring light into the house, but we found that people couldn’t use them as much as they wanted, as they were too hot in the summer and cold in the winter.  Our new sun lounges have flat insulated roofs, full height windows and doors.  They don’t experience such a variance in temperature throughout the year, so they give people more year-round useable floorspace.”

We wish Joe and Brittany many years of happiness in their new home!
