WE PADDLE OUR OWN CANOE

Barnwood-based Newland Homes sailed into first place at the annual Dragon Boat Regatta in Gloucester Docks at the weekend, securing the coveted Dragon Boat Shield for an unprecedented third successive time!

The ‘Newland Knights’ also scooped the trophy for the fastest mixed sex team, and raised over £2,000 for Young Gloucestershire, which helps young people in the county overcome challenges.

The annual fundraising event organised by the Rotary Club of Gloucester Severn is a highlight in Gloucestershire’s calendar.  This is the 23rd annual Dragon Boat Regatta, following an enforced break in recent years due to the pandemic. More than 11 teams competed in 40-foot-long dragon boats in a highly competitive yet enjoyable day.

Jeremy Drew, Developments Director at Newland Homes was part of the winning team who paddled to gold. He comments: “It’s all about the team and that special ingredient.  We’ve got both and we couldn’t be prouder of one another.  As an independent company we don’t follow the pack, we lead.  And when two years ago we decided to build our first zero carbon site, we have done just that.  Now, we have zero carbon homes for sale across two counties, five zero carbon sites in production, and all our new sites will follow this blueprint.  All this while the competition is sitting on the harbourside watching us sail into the future.”

The future is important to Newland Homes.  The company was the first traditional housebuilder in the UK to sign up to the United Nations’ Climate Neutral Now pledge, demonstrating its steadfast commitment to sustainability.  The climate considerate housebuilder is on course to achieve at least a 50% reduction in the company’s carbon footprint by the end of 2024, and it is retrospectively carbon neutral through offsetting.
