A recent report by the Building Societies Association says two high incomes are increasingly needed to secure a mortgage. Especially in an economy where buyers are facing the toughest regulatory conditions for 70 years.
Laura and Glenn had been househunting across Westbury, Warminster and Trowbridge for a while, the latter being Laura’s hometown. They stumbled across the spacious apartments for sale at Heron Rise, Westbury.
Right place, right time!
“We initially looked at renting locally, but the prices were ridiculous!” explainer Laura. “The apartments by Newland Homes at Heron Rise, Westbury popped up on Rightmove at a really good price and I went straight over there that day to book a viewing. I took my Dad and Stepmum with me to the viewing as Glenn was working. When we arrived, we were told that the show apartment had literally just become available again that same day. We viewed both apartment buildings, but fell in love with the showhome apartment; we couldn’t get over the amount of space! It felt like it was meant to be.”
“I had my heart set on this apartment, I’d already picked out the sofas!”
The couple were devastated when their mortgage company threw a spanner in the works. “I cried. It’s over I though we’re not going to be able to move. I had my heart set on this apartment, and I’d already picked out the sofas” explains Laura.
This was Laura’s first home purchase, but Glenn part-owned a house with his previous partner, which made obtaining a mortgage more challenging, even though both work full time for Royal Mail. Caz and Evelyn, Sales Consultants at Heron Rise, worked with the couple and Newland Homes’ financial panel to make their mortgage viable. Thankfully, they were able to move into their new home two months after first viewing it. “We were so impressed with Newland Homes” says Laura.
Spacious apartment living, with connectivity on your doorstep
Glenn works in Gillingham, half an hour away by car, or a few stops by train from Westbury station, which is directly opposite Heron Rise. The couple have recently purchased a rail card, as they are travelling by train a lot more since living across the road from the station. Glenn and his 10-year-old son, Jacob, are keen Yeovil Town football club supporters, and have taken the train to watch their club. “Jacob loves the apartment when he comes to stay, he says it’s like a big bungalow as everything is big and open plan and on one floor” says Glenn.
“I’ve always lived in Trowbridge and didn’t know Westbury that well. We love exploring our new local area. We can walk to the White Horse, watch the paragliders and there are lots of lovely village walks nearby” according to Laura. “I can’t wait to get home after work and on my days off I don’t want to go anywhere, I just love it so much.”
