Alex Chalk MP tours zero carbon homes in Leckhampton, at Pear Trees, to find out how our climate considerate homes are transforming the way modern homes are designed and run.<\/p>\n

Homes are power houses in their own right<\/h4>\n

27 zero carbon homes are being built at Pear Trees<\/a> on Kidnappers Lane.\u00a0 Each of the five-bedroomed, detached homes boast solar PV panels which convert sunlight into energy.\u00a0 Homes have been orientated to maximise solar gain.\u00a0 The energy generated by the solar panels is used to help power the home\u2019s air source heat pump (ASHP), which extracts warmth from outside air.\u00a0 This then heats water for underfloor heating, radiators and hot water in place of a traditional gas boiler.<\/p>\n

The result is that these homes are power houses in their own right.\u00a0 Creating as much regulated prime energy* as they need to run, energy costs are reduced.\u00a0 The impact everyday living has on the environment is therefore minimised.<\/p>\n

The homes are a direct response to the climate emergency declared by Cheltenham Borough Council in 2019.<\/p>\n

MP delighted to visit impressive development<\/h4>\n

The homes at Pear Trees<\/a> achieve the highest possible \u2018A\u2019 rating for both energy efficiency and environmental impact.\u00a0 They also provide a wealth of other modern must haves such as open-plan living spaces, snugs and boot rooms.\u00a0 Seven of the properties also benefit from a multifunctional home office garden room.<\/p>\n

Nine affordable zero carbon properties have been built in conjunction with Cheltenham Borough Homes as part of the development.<\/p>\n
