We have obtained planning consent for 32 zero carbon homes at Walk Mills Lane, Kingswood. Preparatory works are now underway prior to commencing development. First homes are expected to be released for sale in 2026.
Above shows the approved site layout for zero carbon homes at Kingswood.
The Site
The Gloucestershire villge of Kingswood boasts a village shop, public house, village hall, primary and nearby secondary school. Travel options are good too within easy reach of connections to M5 J14. For rail there’s a newly planned railway station at nearby Charfield.
The site is known as ‘brownfield’ with industrial buildings associated with a former print works and hardstanding. It has Ozleworth Brook on its eastern boundary with fields beyond.
Bound on its remaining 3 sides by housing and a public right of way along the western boundary, which our proposals connect to with a waters-edge walk around the development.
Homes are designed to be highly sustainable. They’ll be orientated to maximise potential for solar PV panels. They’ll also have high levels of insulation that far exceed current building regulations.
Water butts positioned within private gardens where possible capture rainfall from roofs. A great resource for gardening or washing vehicles.
Landscaping
A detailed landscape layout was approved which provides a significant biodiversity net gain on site. There’s also a commitment to provide ecological enhancements through the use of hedgehog highways, bird/bat boxes and tree planting. This coupled with areas of wildflower all significantly improve opportunities for wildlife.
A total of 32 homes consisting of 1, 2, 3 and 4 bedroom properties are approved. These are mixed of predominantly of semi-detached houses with a number of apartments and detached homes.
The site is accessed via the existing access point to the southwest corner of the site, off Walk Mills Lane with offsite junction improvements onto Hillesley Rd.
Contemporary house type designs respond to the surrounding area and reference the sites industrial past with large openings, eaves fronted and north light style roof arrangements, contrasting brick banding with brick facings to all units of varying tones to create interest and a strong identity.
Looking to a sustainable future
Looking to the future, there is a passionate commitment to creating an increasingly sustainable legacy with each and every home. There are many features throughout not only our homes, but also the wider development to help mitigate climate change. Investment is made into technologies over and above current building regulation requirements. This ensures homes can maximise the benefit of solar PV production offsetting grid electricity usage. We typically prioritise using air source heat pumps combined with other technologies to avoid fossil fuel usage that can make homes net zero carbon. Seemingly small touches such as a composter or water butt, or integrated eco bins in every kitchen to encourage recycling mean that it’s the little details that make the biggest difference. Newland Homes prides itself on not only meeting but exceeding current building regulations and planning requirements with the future constantly at the forefront of our plans.
Great design at the heart of every home
Inside each home is an abundance of considered touches of award-winning design. Kitchens are carefully thought out not only in terms of practicality, but comfort too, with the kitchen being the heart of the home. Integrated appliances form part of the standard specification, along with the amount of natural light and task lighting all considered. Principal bedrooms boast built in wardrobes and storage is always considered. Bathrooms ooze relaxation with their high-quality fittings including popular ‘rain’ shower heads, whether you enjoy a long soak, or a quick splash.
