It was good news yesterday with reports from the BBC highlighting first-time buyer confidence rises thanks to positive mortgage moves. It’s a view we share here at Newland Homes as since the start of 2025 there’s been a definite rise in interest across our developments from people looking to purchase their first home.
The BBC News article shines a light on the changing landscape for first-time buyers, with many finding that homeownership is becoming more accessible thanks to a combination of improving mortgage conditions and regulatory support.
Great news for first-time buyers
We’ve seen this optimism reflected on the ground, with more first-time buyers visiting our developments to find out about our zero carbon homes in recent weeks. Positivity has, in general, been driven by a mix of several factors. Including:
- Lower deposits needed to secure mortgages
- Lenders increasing income multiples they offer
- Longer mortgage terms providing more affordability
- Attractive new-build mortgage products from specialist lenders
Not just first-time buyers’ confidence, but upsizers too
This optimism is being felt across the whole of the market, according to Alison Bowen, our Sales Manager. “It’s great that everyone is recognising the first-time buyers confidence rise,” she told us. “We’re definitely seeing a growing number of first-time buyers coming through our doors, and it’s really encouraging. The changes in the mortgage market are opening doors for people who may have thought buying a home was out of reach. It’s great to see this momentum building; it’s a real boost for the market.
“With interest rates creeping down, as well as the Bank of England rates predicted to come down too, we’re seeing increasing demand too from upsizers and right sizers as they take advantage of the lower deposit options available and the widening of mortgage products.”
