We’ve welcomed intrepid members of the local community to scale the scaffolding on our new homes to take part in our ‘topping out’ ceremony at Heron Rise in Westbury!
The ceremony is an age-old builders’ rite signifying the completion of the highest point of the last home. Distinguished guests, including Westbury Mayor Cllr Jane Russ, the Westbury Shed and Westbury Yarn Bombers, joined us to climb to the top of the scaffolding. Once at the top they signed their names on the wooden roof trusses.
From brownfield site to climate considerate new homes in Westbury
Construction started in 2021 on 89 ‘climate considerate’ new homes. It has taken three years to transform the derelict, brownfield site into a new community. One that is providing new homes for Westbury, especially for those looking to get on the housing ladder for this first time.
Marcus Evans, Sales & Marketing Director at Newland Homes, expressed his gratitude for the hard work of everyone involved. He said: “As we approach the final stages of Heron Rise, we are excited to see the transformation and look forward to its positive impact on the Wiltshire community.”
Marcus continues: “We are in awe of the dedication and enthusiasm of local people who give up their time to serve their community. This is including local councillors, the Westbury Shed and Westbury Yarn Bombers, and we wanted to celebrate this occasion with them. Their names written on the roof trusses of the last house will be a permanent reminder of their altruism.”
Heron Rise, Westbury – A community collaboration
The Westbury Shed built a little free library for the residents of Heron Rise. The library encourages the sharing and swapping of books to help facilitate community interaction. Marisa Befoh from the Westbury Yarn Bombers crafted a bookworm to sit atop the library. Additionally she crocheted bookmarks as mini acts of kindness for the new residents.
We have also enjoyed a good relationship with Westbury United FC for the past two years, sponsoring their club.
Plus, we have a long and established relationship with Wiltshire, with award-winning developments in Trowbridge, Chapmanslade and Semington. This latest project at Heron Rise is a development of 89, two, three and four bedroom low carbon homes and apartments, within walking distance of the town’s train station.
