LAUNCH OF WORTON’S FIRST ZERO CARBON HOMES

LAUNCH OF WORTON’S FIRST ZERO CARBON HOMES

A new chapter in Worton’s rich history has begun with the launch of the village’s first zero carbon homes.

Located just three miles southwest of Devizes, the new development, named Kempster’s Reach, pays homage to local legend Frederick Kempster, also known as “The Worton Giant,” while setting a new standard for sustainable living.

The first home is now available to reserve

Located at the end of Worton’s High Street, the development is a bijoux collection of 17 brand new zero carbon homes.  This includes a three-bedroom bungalow and three, four and five bedroom detached and semi-detached houses.  The first five-bed detached home is now available to reserve.  This is ahead of the marketing suite and showhome launch in January 2025 and the stamp duty increases which come into effect at the beginning of April 2025.

The homes at Kempster’s Reach have zero carbon status.   This means that, thanks to cutting-edge renewable technologies including solar panels, air source heat pumps, and advanced insulation systems, the homes create as much prime energy as they need.

The new development honours Worton’s folklore figure, Frederick Kempster

The name Kempster’s Reach honours the village’s folklore figure, Frederick Kempster.  He was an extraordinary man remembered for his incredible height—reaching nearly eight feet tall. Born in Worton in 1889, Kempster became a celebrated personality.  He was often referred to as “The Worton Giant,” as he was able to shake hands with people in upstairs windows and light cigarettes from the paraffin lamps on the streets of Worton.   The development not only celebrates Worton’s heritage but also highlights how the village is embracing innovation while staying true to its roots.

Worton is renowned for its friendly, close-knit community and the village’s strong sense of togetherness is woven into daily life. The village hall is a hub of activity, hosting regular events.  These range from coffee mornings and quiz nights to children’s clubs and seasonal celebrations. The historic Rose and Crown pub offers a welcoming spot for locals to gather.  While Five Lanes Primary School fosters a warm environment for young families. The addition of Kempster’s Reach builds on this strong community spirit, offering new residents the chance to become part of this vibrant village life.

Seven affordable homes are also being built for local people, offering one, two and three-bedroom options.  Every home is thoughtfully designed to blend harmoniously with the village character.  The homes utilise locally inspired materials such as red and blue brick, render, and slate or red roof tiles.

Kempster’s Reach represents a perfect balance of sustainability and community,” said Marcus Evans, Sales & Marketing Director at Newland Homes. “We’re proud to bring zero-carbon living to Worton.  A village with such a welcoming and connected way of life, ensuring it retains its charm while making a positive environmental impact.”

Energy efficiency and commitment to improving the local ecosystem

In addition to their superb energy efficiency, the homes incorporate rainwater harvesting systems and sustainable drainage solutions.  This ensures environmental benefits extend beyond energy savings. These features, alongside porous paving, and grassed swales to manage surface water and support wildlife habitats, reflect a commitment to improving the local ecosystem.

“Spacious homes with high-quality specifications and stunning countryside views.  This, along with a strong connection to the local community make Kempster’s Reach a standout project.  By securing your new home now, which will be ready for you to move into before the stamp duty rises in April 2025, you can avoid the additional cost and make the most of the current, more favourable stamp duty taxes” concludes Marcus.
