NEWLAND HOMES BUILDS LIFE-SAVING SKILLS

Newland Homes builds life saving skills

Newland Homes builds life-saving skills as we invest in defibrillators and specialist training for all staff at sites across the South West.

Nationally, despite improvements in safety across the industry, construction sites remain high-risk places of work.   In cases of cardiac arrest, being able to use a defibrillator in the first few minutes could mean an increase in survival rates by between 50 and 70%.

Introduction of portable defibrillators on every construction site

To bolster the company’s rigorous health and safety procedures, we have now introduced portable defibrillators on every construction site and at our head office in Barnwood, in addition to specialist training for staff on how to effectively use the equipment.

Ian Hughes, Associate Construction Director for Newland Homes, comments: “Should the worst happen, we know that having quick access to a defibrillator can have a major impact on the likelihood of survival and recovery.

“Over the years, we have been instrumental in helping the communities where we build homes to buy and install their own defibrillators.  And whilst there is currently no legal requirement to have defibrillators on site, we felt it was our responsibility to our employees and contractors to go above and beyond the regulations and ensure we are running the safest possible sites by having the necessary equipment and trained staff.

“We hope that these defibrillators will never need to be used, but knowing that they’re available on every construction site will provide reassurance to staff, contractors and visitors.”
