Barnwood-based Newland Homes, ‘Newland Knights’ team sailed into first place in the afternoon race at the annual Dragon Boat Festival in Gloucester Docks at the weekend.
Highlight of Gloucestershire’s calendar
The annual fundraising event organised by the Rotary Club of Gloucester Severn is a highlight in Gloucestershire’s calendar. This is the 24th annual Dragon Boat Regatta, following an enforced break in recent years due to the pandemic. More than 28 teams competed in 30-foot-long dragon boats in a highly competitive yet entertaining day, with the ‘Newland Knights’ winning by just half a second in an extremely close finish.
Fund raising for Young Gloucestershire
Newland Homes has so far raised £2,695 for the Rotary Club of Gloucester Severn’s chosen charity, Young Gloucestershire, which helps disadvantaged young people in the county overcome challenges they are facing. Fundraising is still open and it is hoped that more will be raised over the coming weeks: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/newland-homes-2023
Paddling to gold
Tim Sergeant, Corporate Services Director at Newland Homes, was part of the winning team who paddled to gold. He comments: “As Team Captain and by far the oldest Newland Knights member, I am extremely proud of the way our team came together to give it all they had to triumph once again!”
