When Abbey and Leo began their search for a new home, they knew exactly what they wanted: a four-bedroom detached house with an internal garage and a large garden. Their dream home was one of only three of its kind on the first phase of the Great Oaks development by Newland Homes. However, with a tight deadline looming due to their son’s schooling, they were unsure if they could make it work, until they discovered Newland Homes’ Movemaker scheme.
Abbey recalls: “We needed to be in our new house in time for the school admissions deadline in January. Jayne, the Newland Homes sales consultant, suggested we use the Movemaker assisted sale scheme and worked with us to achieve our goal in the timeframe. She held the new house for us and advised us when to put our old house on the market with their preferred estate agents, Andrews, to align the sale with the timeline of our new home being ready.”
A stressful process became a smooth journey
Movemaker transformed what could have been a stressful process into a smooth journey. “Everyone was working towards the same goal with a clear timeframe. The communication between us, Newland and Andrews was excellent — we always knew what was happening. Right at the end, Ron, the Site Manager, went above and beyond to make sure everything was ready for us on time” Abbey adds.
For Abbey and Leo, relationships were key to their experience. Abbey shares: “It was like coming full circle for me. I started my career in marketing working for Andrews estate agents, and now they were selling our house to help us move into our dream home. It all felt very personal.”
“Jayne and her colleague Bev were a breath of fresh air. We’ve bought a brand-new home before, but this was a very different experience. They were honest, friendly, and talked from the heart. It felt like they really wanted it to work out for us” says Leo.
The couple also appreciated how the Movemaker scheme saved them from financial stress. “Most mortgage companies apply an early redemption charge if there’s a gap between selling your home and moving into your new one. That would have cost us thousands at the worst possible time. We gave Newland Homes the exchange date we needed to hit, and they did what they could to make it happen” explains Leo.
A future-proofed home
Beyond the smooth moving process, Abbey and Leo were drawn to the quality and sustainability of Newland Homes. “One of my colleagues vouched for the quality of their homes” says Leo. “I thought if it was good enough for him, it’s good enough for me, as he has high standards.”
The zero-carbon features of the home were particularly important to the couple. “Other developers weren’t offering this, but I can see where the industry is heading, phasing out gas boilers and the like. We didn’t want to face retrofitting in the future” says Leo. “With Newland, all the renewable energy elements were ready and running from day one. It’s reassuring to know our home is future-proofed.”
A perfect location
Abbey and Leo’s new home isn’t just a dream house — it’s in an ideal location. “We’re close to family and all the amenities are just five minutes away. Yet, when we step outside, it’s peaceful and quiet. We look out over fields of grazing sheep and can see the stars at night” says Abbey. The sense of community has also been a highlight. “All the neighbours we’ve met are lovely” they share.
Why Movemaker stands out
Reflecting on their journey, Abbey and Leo say the Movemaker scheme exceeded their expectations. “From start to finish, the process was collaborative and stress-free. Newland Homes’ commitment to helping us achieve our dream made all the difference” says Abbey.
