MOVEMAKER SCHEME HELPS YATE FAMILY IN TIME FOR SCHOOL ADMISSIONS

Movemaker scheme helps Yate family in time for school admissions

Newland Homes’ Movemaker scheme helps Yate family secure dream home in time for school admissions.  As families across the UK navigate the competitive primary school admissions process, one local couple have shared how a housebuilder’s support made all the difference this year.

Movemaker scheme assists buyers in selling their existing home

Abbey and Leo recently moved into a zero carbon home at Great Oaks near Yate.  Just in time to meet the critical January school admission deadline for their child to start school.  Their timely move was facilitated by Newland Homes’ Movemaker scheme.  This scheme assists buyers in selling their existing home to align with the purchase of their brand new one.

While actual local figures for primary school admissions in South Gloucestershire are pending, national data from 2024 shows that 93.2%* of families received their first-choice primary school placement.  This goes to show that being registered at the correct address by the admissions deadline is crucial.

As many parents can relate, choosing a school is a big decision.  Once that choice is made families don’t want to miss out.  Abbey recalls: “Newland Homes suggested we use the Movemaker assisted sale scheme.  They then worked with us to achieve our goal in the timeframe.  They held the new house for us and advised us when to put our old house on the market with their preferred estate agents, to align the sale with the timeline of our new home being ready.”

The Movemaker initiative transformed what could have been a stressful process into a smooth journey. “Everyone was working towards the same goal with a clear timeframe. The communication between us, Newland Homes and the estate agent was excellent.  We always knew what was happening.  Right at the end, the Newland Homes Site Manager went above and beyond to make sure everything was ready for us on time” Abbey adds.

Zero Carbon homes

The housebuilder is building 84 three and four bedroom zero carbon homes at Great Oaks in Engine Common, near Yate.  All the new homes at Great Oaks use renewable energy in place of fossil fuels.  They have high levels of insulation, solar panels for electricity generation, air source heat pumps for hot water and heating, and an electric car charging point.

Continuing the environmentally friendly approach, allotments are also being created for people to grow their own produce and a natural play area is planned.  Newland Homes has also commissioned a one-of-a-kind piece of public art for the heart of the development, called ‘The Great Beam’, to commemorate the location’s industrial past.

“It’s reassuring to know our home is future-proofed”

Beyond the smooth moving process, Abbey and Leo were drawn to the quality and sustainability of Newland Homes. The zero carbon features were particularly important to the couple. “Other developers weren’t offering this, but I can see where the industry is heading, phasing out gas boilers and the like.  We didn’t want to face retrofitting in the future” says Leo.  “With Newland Homes, all the renewable energy elements were ready and running from day one. It’s reassuring to know our home is future-proofed.”

Movemaker is just one of the schemes that Newland Homes offers to help people buy a new home.  Part exchange is another option and a special part exchange event is being held at Great Oaks on the 21 June 2025.  Prices start from £390,000 for a three bedroom, semi-detached home.  To book a tailor-made appointment or register to attend the event please call 01454 537993.  For further information and to view the homes online please click here. Or follow Newland Homes on socials @newlandhomes
